Core Programs Make The BIG Difference!

From games and athletics to drug prevention workshops, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Victor Valley offers young people a range of fun and productive activities. Clubs are open each day after school from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. - when research has shown children to be most vulnerable to gangs, violence and other risky behaviors. In the summer, Clubs and special summer-only sites open their doors all day to young people with nowhere else to go.

A trained, caring staff implements proven youth development strategies and creates a stable, supportive environment for children and teens ages six to 18. Specially designed programs concentrate on developing job readiness, study skills, leadership, self-esteem, good health and social responsibility among Boys & Girls Club members.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Victor Valley knows that with an education, good health and job skills our Club members can accomplish their dreams. The Clubs provide diverse activities that meet the interests of all youth. Core Programs engage young people in activities with adults, peers and family members that enable them to develop self-esteem and to reach their full potential. The Clubs take pride in being able to provide members with a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences. The Core Programs developed and implemented in the Clubs are based on the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs and interests of the youth served in disadvantaged communities.

Clubs offer program activities in five key areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; the Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Victor Valley recognizes and utilizes the developmental principles of these core areas with an emphasis on health, education, and employability.

Health
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Victor Valley places great importance upon the mental and physical health of its members - many of whom do not have access to health professionals. From drug, alcohol and gang prevention to health care outreach and organized sports, Boys & Girls Clubs staff educate and inspire young people to be responsible and healthy each day.

Education
Education is top priority for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Victor Valley. Whether complementing members' formal education with tutoring programs and college exploration or providing opportunities for members to broaden their horizons in the arts and outdoors, we encourage children to explore fully their academic potential, talents and interests. Each Club devotes staff and resources toward designated learning centers where members have access to libraries, computer labs and other educational tools. Staff and volunteers provide homework assistance, tutoring and track academic progress to ensure success.

Employability and Leadership Development
Preparing our children and teens for a successful future is what Boys & Girls Clubs of the Victor Valley does best. A key part is opening young Club members' eyes to the opportunities that exist—and helping them to believe in their abilities to realize their dreams. Career readiness workshops, community service clubs and workplace exchange programs help children and teens explore their interests, set goals and develop skills vital to their success.
